Live Past The Anxiety
Live Past the Anxiety & Find Your Path
The word anxiety gets thrown around a lot these days but the truth is it’s nothing new. Surprisingly it doesn’t magically disappear as we get older.
Still, it feels like the right time to start pushing back. Yes, easier said than done.
Maybe it’s age, but the older I get the more determined I am to quiet the fears that used to throw me off my focus. Letting go of other people’s negativity has been one of the biggest improvements in recent years. Like many others, one of my fears has always been running out of time or good health. Some days that worry would feed the anxiety even more.
Money is another big trigger. I’ve always had a hard time spending money on most things, but due to the amount of how much traveling cost, it has been a hard to keep nerves at bay. There’s a strange guilt that can creep in when we try to invest in ourselves, but once we push past that barrier, it’s life changing.
Our surprising breakthrough came when we decided to find a new hobby with scuba diving. We booked a trip in the Caribbean after the kids moved out and that trip changed everything. Exploring the underwater world felt like discovering an entirely new planet. It was breathtaking, delicate, and deeply in need of protection. It made us want to do more than just look, we wanted to help.
From there, everything snowballed. Scuba diving became a passion we couldn’t ignore. To make the lifestyle more affordable, we made a big decision to move to the Caribbean. You don’t have to make such a dramatic leap, but for us it was exactly the right step at that time in our lives. Instead of stressing over spending most of our savings on a few short dive trips, we chose to live a few miles from the ocean and enjoy what we loved more often.
Life still gets busy but we’re living a calmer lifestyle that feels intentional instead of anxious. Hopefully we can encourage others to follow what feels right for them and not listen to what everyone else says you should be doing and feeling, because that is the strongest source of anxiety that there is.
