Live Past The Anxiety

Chasing the Ocean, Not the Anxiety

Live Past the Anxiety & Find Your Path

Anxiety gets thrown around a lot these days, but let's be honest it's nothing new. No, it doesn't magically disappear as you get older. Kind of a bummer, right?

Still, at some point you've got to start pushing back. Easier said than done, obviously.

Maybe it's just age, but the older I get, the more determined I am to quiet the fears that used to throw me completely off my game. Letting go of other people's negativity has honestly been one of the best changes I've made in recent years. Like a lot of people, I've always been low-key terrified of running out of time or good health. Some days, that worry just fed the anxiety even more.

Money's another big one for me, like many others. I've never been great at spending a lot of it on myself and once you factor in how much traveling actually costs, it gets even harder to keep the nerves in check. There's this weird guilt that creeps in when you try to invest in yourself, but once you push past it? Genuinely life-changing.

It was a big turning point when I picked up a new hobby: scuba diving. Booked a trip to the Caribbean after the kids moved out and that trip changed everything. Exploring the underwater world felt like stepping onto a whole new planet. It was breathtaking, delicate and honestly a little fragile. It didn't take long before just looking wasn't enough. Now I’m on a mission to help protect it too.

Diving became a passion that I couldn't shake. So, to make the lifestyle actually sustainable, I made the made the decision and moved to the Caribbean. Short term or long term, I haven’t decided yet – there’s a big world out there.

You don't need to go that big yourself, but it was exactly the right move at the right time. Instead of blowing savings on a couple of short dive trips a year, we chose to live a few miles from the ocean and enjoy it whenever we could.

Life still gets busy, but these days it feels calmer. Living a more intentional, less anxious lifestyle has improved the outlook of the next chapter of living. Hopefully we can encourage others to follow what feels right for them and not listen to what everyone else says you should be doing and feeling, because that is the strongest source of anxiety that there is.
